Burning a Legal DID permanently destroys the selected on-chain asset. This action is irreversible and the asset cannot be recovered.
Only the wallet that currently holds a Legal DID can burn it under the current contract. Burning destroys that token; it does not transfer it to another wallet. RNS.ID Support cannot burn the token on your behalf.
Before you continue
Burn only when you intend to destroy that specific token permanently. Burning does not move the asset back to RNS.ID, disconnect it temporarily, delete your RNS.ID account, or delete the underlying Palau ID or Legal DID application record.
Confirm that:
- you selected the correct Legal DID and token ID;
- the connected wallet currently holds it;
- no service still depends on that token;
- you understand that past blockchain activity remains part of the public chain history.
Burn the token
- Open the RNS.ID wallet page.
- Connect the wallet that holds the Legal DID.
- Find the correct Legal DID and select Burn This LDID.
- Read the irreversible-action warning.
- Approve the burn transaction in the wallet.
- Wait for blockchain confirmation and verify that the asset is no longer held by the wallet.
The wallet calls the token contract’s burn function for the selected token ID. This is an on-chain transaction and can require a network fee.
RNS.ID Support cannot reverse a confirmed burn, restore the same token, or recover a wallet’s private keys.
If the expected Legal DID is not visible, do not connect an unrelated wallet or approve an unknown contract. Verify the address and network first, then use Security and scam reporting if the prompt or site appears suspicious.
Minting after a burn
The current contract allows the same wallet to receive a newly issued Legal DID after a burn. A new request remains subject to identity eligibility, current minting checks, and applicable fees. It creates a new token, not a restoration of the token you burned.
Burning does not automatically request or guarantee a replacement. Do not burn a token on the assumption that a later mint will be free. Review the minting requirements before submitting any new request.
